Abstract

With the proximity to the 2012 Master Plan (PD2012) revision, it was essential to analyze the last years of planning in the Municipality of Cascavel – Brazil, and to establish a strategy for the future, integrating the Multipurpose Cadastral map (CdM) and the Territorial Information System. Both have been gaining importance in Brazilian municipal administration decision-making processes.

This two-stage study started by demonstrating the potential of high-resolution satellite images for updating cadastral databases. Finally, based on cadastral information in digital format, three indicators and respective sub-indicators – purpose, pedology and heritage – were analyzed and confronted with the current PD2012.

By studying territorial planning strategies supported by Geographic Information Systems it was possible to demonstrate that the cadastral information present in the CdM and the use of remote sensing data for the production of cartography may support thematic analyzes and spatial statistics and support both planners and decision makers in their roles.
