Innovation is needed!
The crisis, despite what one might think, can be a unique opportunity to rethink cities. Cities will survive to the crises and will continue to be privileged spaces for knowledge, innovation and creativity. Gathering together these and other clearly positive aspects, the future of cities will depend on the way they are designed, built and lived. In this context, it is easy to understand the importance of working on social capital – consolidating it through communities of practice, which encourage collective learning. By achieving this, we will be directly contributing to the construction of “urban” capital, placing emphasis on society. It then becomes crucial to create and put into operation forms of active participation, led by experienced and qualified professionals and supported by appropriate methodologies. The goal will be to overcome the limitations of the referential knowledge (academic or non-academical) of liberal urbanism, and to encourage the emergence of a more comprehensive knowledge, able to generate contributions adjusted to the increasing complex and uncertain contexts in which we live, which are essential to a successful balanced society, and based on a creative and innovative logic of sharing, ensuring that everyone has a “right to the city”.
