On models
Writing about scale models is difficult. They pave the way to future work. Our work is there against the world and against time. The projects are artifacts designed to become life and are completed by life. The density of construction is not – and cannot be – in the scale models. There you find another means of knowing the world, and its construction is not important. Architecture designs and the scale models feel the territory, rehearse its proportions, they mention a tree, they are based on the principle that architecture may monopolize all unforeseen events, they formalize an architect’s desire. Perhaps that is why they are a world of their own and the construction is often not needed. Design and scale models are the most optimistic tools in the world.
